Post-Surgery / Trauma Care

Scar tissue forms to repair damaged skin, Scars result from injuries, surgery, illness, burns and acne.

Scar tissue may cause adhesions between layers of skin, muscle, connective tissue resulting in disorganized circulation and innervation around the scar and neighboring areas. In other words, scar tissue can cause dysfunction by influencing its surrounding tissues.

In Traditional Chinese medicine, scar tissues block the smooth flow of qi and blood, called "Qi and blood stagnation", can lead to significant long-term health problems.

A patient who had open-heart surgery can develop chronic chest pain from scar tissue. A mother who has had a cesarean section or a patient with abdominal surgery can develop bloating, chronic abdominal pain, menstrual cramps and constipation. In the worst case, scar tissue my cause intestinal obstruction in the long run, which can be life-threatening.

A surgeon cannot avoid creating adhesions, but acupuncture helps break down old scar, reduce adhesions by increasing blood flow through the needles, lowers the risk of serious health problems in the future.
